After late night in The Bull or early start on the farm, Ambridge’s finest could well be expected to have a little rasp in their voices on the Radio 4 airwaves now and then.
But if David Archer appears particularly croaky on occasion, there may be a more unusual reason for it: a job moonlighting as a vampire necromancer.
Timothy Bentinck, the Archers actor, has disclosed listeners will be able to tell when he has taken on a second job providing voice overs for video games, by paying careful attention to the “raspiness of his voice”.
The actor, who along with other members of the BBC drama’s cast has other acting work on the side, revealed he regularly plays orcs, zombies and even James Bond for a range of work on computer games.
Earlier this year, he told a book festival the jobs required “what is called extreme voicework”: a technical term for, in this case, “shouting”.
